Singer, songwriter and movie actor Hoyt Axton died today at age 61. He suffered a heart attack while undergoing surgery for another heart attack suffered two weeks ago. Axton wrote songs for Three Dog Night, Ringo Starr and others. Perhaps his best known song was "Joy to the World." His friend and fellow singer Jerry Jeff Walker remembers Axton as a man on a collision course with heart attacks for years. Walker said Axton bragged that the only green thing he ate were M & M's.
