Dennis Newman is a bodybuilder well-known among the bodybuilding community in the 1990s. His physique fetched him the Mr. USA title in 1994, and the IFBB Pro featured in many famous bodybuilding magazines. However, a personal crisis in the same year cut short his bodybuilding career. Now, the 53-year-old bodybuilder appeared on “The Menace Podcast with Dennis James.

They dropped the podcast in light of the recent deaths of bodybuilders at a relatively young age. Speaking about his journey, Newman also confirmed that he suffered a heart attack this year. 

Dennis Newman revealed his heart attack story

Bodybuilding icons like Milos Sarcev, Chris Cormier, and Dave Palumbo joined Dennis James on his podcast for Muscle and Fitness channel. Newman was the guest on the show and had a candid session discussing various aspects of bodybuilding.

While revealing his training regime, Newman confessed, “I had a heart attack on April 1st.” They rushed the bodybuilding champion to the hospital in Canada at 10 P.M. after he felt some pressure on the right side of his chest and jaw. Realizing the catastrophe ahead, he decided to get to the hospital. 

I told my wife, ‘Call the ambulance, I’m having a heart attack,‘” he said. He reached the hospital two hours away in the ambulance. “They said they fixed me, so I feel good now,” he added. As the bodybuilders on the show realized how common the ailment is, Dave Palumbo requested everyone above 40 to have a cardiac CT angiogram done to find blockages. It isn’t the first time Dennis Newman suffered from a life-threatening health condition. 

The 53-year-old is a cancer survivor

The bodybuilding fans hoped that Dennis Newman would win Mr. Olympia after witnessing his presence on the stage in the early 1990s. He even proved his fans’ aspirations to a certain extent by becoming an IFBB Pro. 

But his bodybuilding reign didn’t take off as he was diagnosed with leukemia in 1994, per Fitness Volt. After 18 months of treatment and remission, he attempted to come back to the competitive arena, but to no avail. However, he actively contributes to the sport by coaching fitness enthusiasts since then.
